Gratitude

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 invites us into a different way of seeing life. It tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances,” not because everything is easy or good, but because God is present in all of it. Gratitude isn’t pretending the hard things don’t hurt—it’s choosing to believe that God is still at work, even when the season feels heavy or uncertain.

When life is full of blessings, gratitude feels natural. But when we’re facing challenges, setbacks, or situations that seem completely overwhelming, thankfulness becomes a shift in perspective. It reminds us that we are not alone, that God hasn’t stepped away, and that His faithfulness doesn’t change with our circumstances. Even in the middle of struggle, there are glimpses of grace—strength we didn’t know we had, people who walk alongside us, hope that quietly holds us together.

Gratitude, then, becomes an act of trust. It’s saying, “God, I don’t understand this season, but I know You are with me in it.” And as we practice thankfulness, our hearts begin to change. We start noticing God’s presence more clearly, resting in His nearness, and finding peace that isn’t dependent on how things turn out.

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” ~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
