Love Ourself
Scripture Reading:
"A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" — Matthew 22:39 (NLT)
When Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves, He presupposed something vital: that we actually know how to love ourselves well. Loving ourself isn't about selfish indulgence or reckless pampering; it means genuinely doing what is good for our well-being. It looks like going to bed early when our body desperately needs rest, or extending grace to ourself when we make a mistake instead of constantly beating ourself up.
True self-love means forgiving ourself, seeking God’s guidance, and setting healthy boundaries with anyone or anything that continuously drains our spiritual and physical energy. When we neglect our own hearts and bodies, we quickly run on empty and have nothing left to give to those around us. We must learn to be a good, compassionate friend to ourself before we can truly offer Christlike love, strength, and friendship to anyone else.
Reflection Question: What is one practical way you can show healthy, God-honoring care to yourself today so that you are better equipped to love others?
