Path of Maturation
Spiritual growth is never an automatic process that just happens to us over time. It is a continuous, intentional journey. While God’s Word is always there to protect and guide us, its power is unlocked in our lives when we choose to continually hear it, listen to it, and completely immerse ourselves in it.
The writer of Hebrews describes this need for active spiritual maturity in Hebrews 5:14:
"But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
Spiritual maturity requires "constant use." Just like training a physical muscle, we have to train our spiritual senses by daily absorbing truth so we can clearly recognize the difference between what is right and what is a destructive counterfeit. We cannot survive on a spiritual diet meant for infants if we want to walk in the fullness of our calling.
When we commit to this deeper level of growth, our life's trajectory changes. We aren't stumbling around in the dark; instead, our direction becomes clearer and clearer. Solomon beautifully illustrates this momentum in Proverbs 4:18:
"The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day."
As you lean into the Word, the Holy Spirit will always provide the exact encouragement and strength you need to do what is right and stay locked onto your God-given path. Your walk with God isn't meant to dim or grow stagnant; it is designed to shine brighter and more radiantly with each passing day.
Reflection Question: In what practical way can you "train" your spiritual senses this week to immerse yourself deeper in God's Word rather than just skimming the surface?
