Remembering the Lion and the Bear
When David stood before King Saul, volunteering to fight the giant Goliath, everyone around him was trapped in a massive "negativity loop." The army was terrified, Saul was skeptical, and the facts on the ground looked completely hopeless. But David refused to let that negative noise penetrate his mind. Instead, he counteracted the doubt by actively remembering the faithfulness of God. Look at his bold declaration in 1 Samuel 17:37:
"The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine."
David used the power of God's track record to shatter the negativity of the present moment. He essentially said, "Look at what God has already done in my life!" We can use that exact same strategy today. When you find yourself or the people around you sinking into a spiral of complaints, worry, or worst-case scenarios, you have the opportunity to step in and shed light on the opposite. You can intentionally choose positive over negative by bringing a shift in perspective to the situation.
Take a moment to count your blessings and think of all the times God has already shown up for you. Every single giant challenge you have faced in your past has been overcome because of your faith and trust in Him. He hasn't changed. Whatever heavy circumstance you are experiencing at this exact moment, you can stand firm knowing that your history with God proves His future loyalty. He got you through the lion and the bear, He will get you past this current giant, and He promises that better days are on the way.
Reflection Question: When you look back at your life, what is one "lion" or "bear" that God rescued you from? How can remembering that victory help you shed positive light on a tough situation you or someone else is facing today?
