Standing Safe in the Stronghold
When a massive storm hits, everything around us can feel completely chaotic. The wind howls, the rain beats down, and the ground beneath us can feel completely unsteady. In those intense moments, we often feel an overwhelming panic to do something—to fix it, to escape it, or to make a major decision just to make the pressure stop. But the middle of a storm is almost always the worst time to make a permanent choice.
The beautiful truth we have to hold onto is that storms do not last forever. Eventually, the clouds will break and the sun will come back out. While you are in the thick of it, God doesn’t ask you to frantically fix the weather; He asks you to find your shelter in Him. The sons of Korah write about this unshakeable security in Psalm 46:1-3:
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."
Notice that the psalm doesn’t say the earth won't shake or the waters won't roar. It says that even when they do, we do not have to live in fear. Why? Because God is our refuge. He is an ever-present, right-now help.
When you are facing a heavy season of storms, that is your cue to remain calm and rest deeply in the Lord’s loving and caring hands. You can take a deep breath, hit the pause button, and completely trust God to lead you to the right decision in His perfect timing. Let Him fight the battle for you, let Him calm the waves, and let Him do exactly what you cannot do on your own.
Reflection Question: Are you trying to make a big decision right now while the waters are still roaring around you? How can you step into God’s refuge today and let Him handle what is completely out of your control?
