Get Up and Look Up
God’s Joyful Cheer Squad: Fall Down, Get Up, and Keep Going!
The Big Idea
When you trip or make a mistake, God isn't mad—He helps you get back up and points you toward His awesome plans for your future!
Think About This
Have you ever tried learning how to ride a bike, ice skate, or tie your shoes? You probably tumbled or got frustrated a lot before you got it right! When you fell, did your parents yell at you? No! They helped you up, dusted off your knees, and cheered you on.
That’s exactly how God feels about us! Psalm 147:11 tells us that God delights in people who put their hope in His love. He doesn't stand over us with a frown when we make a mistake or trip up. He laughs with us, gives us a big hug, and helps us stand right back up. And when we stop staring at our mistakes and start looking up at Him, Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that He has big, hopeful, wonderful plans for our future. You don't have to worry about failing—just keep getting back up!
Family Activity: The "Get Up & Freeze" Hope Game
Clear a space in the living room and play some upbeat worship music.
Everyone dances around, but when the music pauses, everyone has to safely "fall down" or drop to one knee!
Before anyone can get back up, call out one reason to praise God or one thing you're excited about for the future (e.g., "God loves me!" or "God has good plans for my week!").
Shout "God lifts me up!", jump back up with a big smile, and resume dancing.
Talk about how easy it is to smile and try again when we know God is cheering for us!
