Stepping Back into the Image
From the very beginning, God had a plan. Genesis 1:26 tells us that we were created in His image, which means our lives are filled with purpose right from the start. We’re not accidents or afterthoughts—we carry something of God’s own nature within us. We were made to reflect who He is, not just in how we live, but in how we think, love, and relate to others.
That’s why we’re more than just physical beings. We are spiritual, eternal souls living in temporary bodies. Our bodies will one day wear out, but who we really are will last forever. We can think, reason, and create because those qualities come from God Himself. We can love deeply and receive love because love is part of God’s very nature. We can tell the difference between right and wrong, which means our choices matter and we’re accountable to the One who made us.
But sin distorted that image. It didn’t erase it, but it clouded it. That’s where Jesus comes in. Romans 8:29 reminds us that God’s goal is to restore us—to shape us to look like Jesus again. Ephesians 4:24 tells us we are being made new, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Jesus came on a mission: to remove the sin that had taken over and to restore the image of God within us.
So when we follow Christ, we’re not just trying to be “better people.” We’re stepping back into who we were always meant to be—sons and daughters made in God’s image, walking in His love, His truth, His purpose.
Reflection Question: When you look at how you think, love, and treat others, what is one area where you can clearly see God's image shining through you, and what is one area you want Him to restore?

Romans 8:29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
