Stay in step with God
In John 18:10–11, Peter impulsively draws his sword and cuts off the servant’s ear, thinking he’s protecting Jesus. But Jesus immediately corrects him. This moment teaches a powerful lesson about timing, obedience, and trusting God’s will.
How often do we do the same—jump in, fix things, or act before God’s timing? Peter’s well-meaning impulse nearly disrupted a miracle: not just the servant’s healing, but the greater miracle of redemption through the cross. God’s work often unfolds differently than we expect. While we rush to “fix” things, He calls us to pause, pray, and trust.
Obedience doesn’t mean the path is easy, but it aligns us with God’s purpose, brings peace, and opens our eyes to His miraculous work. When we surrender our impulses, we step into His timing and witness His glory exactly as He intends.
“Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s slave. But Jesus said to Peter, Put your sword into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?” ~John 18:10-11
