Surrendering the Need to Fix Everything
Matthew 6:33 is one of those verses that sounds simple—almost gentle—until life gets loud. “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” The hard part isn’t understanding it. The hard part is living it when everything around us is fighting for first place.
Distractions rarely look dangerous at the start. Sometimes they show up as stress. As busyness. As sudden problems that feel urgent and heavy. And that’s exactly how the enemy works—he doesn’t always try to pull us away from God with obvious sin; he overwhelms us until our focus shifts. If he can keep our minds spinning, worrying, chasing solutions, doubting provision—then we’re no longer seeking first. We’re surviving first.
And survival mode is loud. It says: “Fix this now.” “Figure it out yourself.” “God can wait—you need control.”
But Matthew 6:33 calls us back to alignment. It’s God saying: Before the worry. Before the planning. Before the fear. Put Me first.
Not because He needs attention—but because we need clarity. When we focus on His kingdom, His truth, His promises, everything else falls into its rightful place. Peace returns. Direction becomes clearer. The noise loses power.
The enemy wants our eyes on the storm. God wants our eyes on His faithfulness.
Seeking first doesn’t mean ignoring responsibilities—it means anchoring our hearts in the One who controls the outcome. It means trusting that what God provides is always better than what panic produces. Anything that pulls us away from His presence—even if it looks productive or necessary—slowly weakens our spiritual focus.
That’s why these overwhelming seasons matter so much. They reveal who we run to first. And they’re also invitations to tighten our grip on God instead of loosening it.
Because when the Holy Spirit leads, there’s peace—even in chaos. When distractions lead, there’s exhaustion—even in success.
Matthew 6:33 is really a daily choice: Who gets first—God or everything else? And every time we choose Him, He proves His promise true.
Reflection Question: Think about the most frustrating or loud situation on your mind today. Are you currently operating in "survival mode" by trying to fix it all yourself, or are you willing to pause and let God have the first word before you take your next step?
