Best House-Guest Ever
The Big Idea: This week, we are learning about how the Holy Spirit lives inside us, how to use our special gifts to help others, and how to find quiet rest in God when life gets super busy using 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Peter 4:10, and Psalm 62:1!
Think About This: Have you ever had a special guest come stay at your house? You probably cleaned up your room, made sure they had a nice place to sleep, and felt super excited to hang out with them!
Did you know that you have the most amazing house guest living inside you right now? 1 Corinthians 3:16 says that you are God’s temple, and that His Holy Spirit lives inside your heart! You don't have to look up at the clouds to find God or wait until you go to a church building. He is right there with you when you are playing, cleaning your room, or going to bed.
Because His Spirit lives inside you, He has filled you with a "great variety" of awesome spiritual gifts (1 Peter 4:10). Maybe your gift is being a really kind helper, sharing your toys easily, making people laugh when they are sad, or listening really well. God didn't give you those gifts to show off; He gave them to you so you can serve others and show them His love! And when you feel tired or overwhelmed after a big day of playing and helping, you don't have to worry. Psalm 62:1 reminds us that our souls can wait quietly before God. He is our helper, and just sitting quietly with Him brings us peace!
Family Activity: Draw a picture of a house or a church building on a piece of paper, and write your name across the front of it. Inside the house, write down three things you are good at (like drawing, sharing, or giving hugs). Talk as a family about how those things are actually special gifts from the Holy Spirit who lives inside you, and pick one gift to use to surprise someone with kindness today!
