Filter of Freedom

The Big Idea: This week, we are learning about how to filter our thoughts, drop heavy mindsets, and walk into the wonderful, hope-filled future God has planned for us using 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Jeremiah 29:11, John 8:32, and Ephesians 4:24!

Think About This: Have you ever seen a water filter? It catches all the yucky dirt and lets only the clean, pure water through. Our minds need a filter too! Every day, we hear lots of things from videos, games, or other kids. God tells us to "test everything" and "hold on to what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21). That means the Bible is our ultimate mind filter! If a thought is scary or mean, it's like dirty water—we dump it out!

When we filter out the bad thoughts, we don't have to carry around heavy baggage like worry or sadness. Instead, Jesus gives us real truth that sets our hearts completely free (John 8:32)! Because you belong to Him, He has given you a brand-new, joyful nature (Ephesians 4:24). Did you know that when you focus on what is good, your heart stays light? God is looking at you with a massive smile, and Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that His plans for your future are full of hope, safety, and wonderful surprises!

Family Activity: Grab a clean cup and a coffee filter or paper towel. Pour some water with a little bit of pepper or dirt through it into the cup, and watch how the filter catches the bad stuff. Talk as a family about one "yucky" or worried thought you want to filter out of your mind today, and replace it with a happy promise from God!
