Deep Roots & Straight Paths

The Big Idea

This week, we are learning that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and stay deeply rooted in His love using Proverbs 4:27 and Colossians 2:7!

Think About This

Have you ever tried walking in a straight line while looking sideways at a dog running by or a colorful toy? You end up bumping into a wall or walking right off the sidewalk! Proverbs 4:27 tells us to keep our feet straight and not get sidetracked. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, He helps us stay on the right path without getting distracted by lesser things.

Colossians 2:7 teaches us to be like a big, strong tree! If a small plant is in bad dirt, it won't grow big or green. But when a plant is put into super rich, healthy dirt, its roots reach way down deep! Being in "good dirt" means spending time talking to God and listening to His Word. When your roots are planted deep in Jesus, no big wind or tricky storm can knock you down!

Family Activity

Go outside together and find two things: a small handful of weeds (or a loose plant) and a sturdy tree. Try gently pulling on both! Talk about how easy it is to pull up something without deep roots, but how strong and steady the tree stands because its roots are planted deep underground.
