Loving Jesus Most & Showing His Love

The Big Idea

Jesus gives us amazing gifts and shows us how to love, but He wants us to love HIM most of all!

Think About This

Imagine it’s your birthday and someone hands you a giant box of your favorite toys. You’d be super excited, right? But what if you grabbed the box, ran to your room, and forgot to ever say "thank you" or hang out with the person who gave it to you? That would make them feel sad! Sometimes we do that with God. We get excited about cool stuff, fun days, or nice things, but we forget about God—the One who gave them to us (Hebrews 13:5).

When we put Jesus first, His love fills our hearts like a cozy blanket. That love helps us act like Him! Instead of getting mad when a friend takes forever or annoys us, Jesus helps us be patient and kind (1 Corinthians 12:31, 13:4). Kindness is love in action—it’s like giving someone a giant hug with your words and actions.

Family Activity: The "Giver First" Treasure Hunt

  1. Hide a few small treats or toys around the living room.

  2. Before the kids hunt for them, place a picture or note representing Jesus at the starting line.

  3. Rule: Before opening any hidden "blessing," each person must stop at the starting line, give God a high-five or a quick "Thank you, Jesus!" prayer, reminding everyone that the Giver is always better than the gift.

  4. Finish by practicing kindness: Have family members say one kind, encouraging thing to the person sitting next to them!
