Real Freedom

John 8:31–32 reminds us that real freedom doesn’t come from just hearing truth—it comes from living in it. Jesus didn’t say, “If you know My words,” but “If you abide in My words.” That means staying rooted there, letting His truth shape our choices, our reactions, and the way we see ourselves and others. Truth only becomes powerful when it’s practiced.

That’s where 1 Corinthians 8:1 speaks so honestly—“knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” We can know a lot about God and still not be growing much at all. Head knowledge can inflate the ego, but heart obedience transforms the soul. God isn’t impressed by how much Scripture we can quote if it isn’t showing up in how we love, forgive, serve, and walk humbly.

Spiritual growth isn’t instant—it’s layered. It happens quietly, slowly, one obedient step at a time. Every time we choose patience instead of anger, forgiveness instead of resentment, trust instead of fear—we are being shaped.

And that’s what 2 Corinthians 3:18 is talking about. We are being changed “from glory to glory.” Not all at once, not overnight—but steadily. God is gently molding us into the likeness of Christ as we keep turning our face toward Him.

Discipleship is not about perfection—it’s about direction. It’s choosing, again and again, to let God’s Word lead instead of our feelings, pride, or comfort. The more we obey what we already know, the more God reveals. And the more we surrender, the more we reflect His light.

Real freedom, real growth, and real transformation happen when we stop just knowing the truth—and start walking in it.

Reflection Question: What is one specific truth you already know from God's Word that you can move from your head to your feet by putting it into practice today?

“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ~John 8:31-32

“Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that we all have knowledge about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.” ~1 Corinthians 8:1

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord - who is the Spirit - makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” ~2 Corinthians 3:18
